Consistent with the mandate of the President Rodrigo Duterte to fastrack infrastructure projects, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced the opening of two additional lanes along the Barkadahan bridge this July.
“When completed the widening of Barkadahan bridge along C-6 will ease traffic congestion at EDSA and C-5. It will also provide a safe and convenient route to the traveling public in the eastern corridor,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.
Villar noted that the Barkadahan Bridge will complement the Laguna Lake Highway project, a 10.7 km road network which will cut travel time from Taytay, Rizal to Bicutan by about 50%.
Last February, DPWH opened a section of the Laguna Lake Highway which traverses through Napindan to M. L. Quezon section in Taguig City.
Two (2) lanes of the highway traversing Napindan to M. L. Quezon section in Taguig City was opened last February.
“We aim to develop C-6 as a strategic alternate route for motorists in Metro Manila. The opening of Barkadahan Bridge is part of an ambitious road network aimed at traffic decongestion,” he added.
