PHILFFEX 2017 highlights growth & opportunities in design sector

The Philippine Finishing and Furnishings Expo (PHILFFEX) 2017 has made its debut at the SMX Convention Center Manila last March 9 to 11, 2017. The newest addition to the PHILCONSTRUCT brand of trade expo, PHILFFEX focused on showing off the industry growth and business opportunities in design and furnishing.

In a statement, PCA Past President and PEECC Chairman Jorge Consunji said finishing and furnishings sector is growing alongside the construction sector as propelled by government’s golden age of infrastructure program.

“Right now, the market for furnishings and finishing is strong because there’s a lot of demand for new office, residential, and retail development," Consunji said. In 2016, the Philippines ranked 7th in attractiveness as offshoring location among 55 countries based on the A.T. Kearney Global Services Location Index.

"We want our local talents and interior finishes to get exposure and to get their own slice of this market. This is why we are a staging a furnishing show, to serve as their business platform,” Consunji added.

Making the event more attractive, PHILFFEX was co-located with three other huge shows including 1) Interior Design Manila (IDM) 2017 by the by the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) ; 2) the 6th Philippine International Furniture Show (PIFS) by the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines (CFIP), Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) and Pampanga Furniture Industries Foundation (PFIF); and 3) the Philippine Ventilating and Air-conditioning Expo (PHILVAC) by the Philippine Society of Ventilating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigerating Engineers (PSVARE).

The collaboration of these huge shows resulted to a diverse exhibition of home decors, fixtures for bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, and living room; lighting solutions; luxury lifestyle; surfaces and finishes (walls, floors, ceilings); and innovative air cooling and ventilation solutions.

Among those who graced the event were former Philippine President and currently Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP) Undersecretary Atty. Ruth Castelo, Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) President Architect James Jao, PCA President Dante M.
