With Metro Manila being tagged as having "the worst traffic on earth" , House members are now seeking revolutionary solutions from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
During the briefing on priority plans and projects of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development, house members aired their sentiments and expectations from the DPWH saying that typical solutions would not be enough.
“We hope the DPWH would be able to find a better solution, especially to the traffic congestion problem, instead of just building additional roads which could also create bottlenecks at the end since some projects are still undergoing feasibility study,” said Committee Chair Representative Winston Castelo of Quezon City 2nd District.
In the similar view, Rep. Manuel Luis Lopez of the 1st District, Manila said that the number of vehicles is not commensurate with the number of infrastructures.
Meanwhile, Rep. Bayani Fernando of the 1st District, Marikina City agreed that more intersection are needed instead of putting all new roads in just a certain area.
Just recently, the DPWH laid out projects that are currently in the works including the 5.65-kilometere Segment 10 of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbour Link Project that connects McArthur Highway and C-3 and the vehicle underpass along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue that is only awaiting an excavation permit.
Currently undergoing a feasibility study is the Php 2.43-billion España Interchange Project that is scheduled for construction in January 2018 and slated to break ground on December 2017 is the construction of the four major interchanges of the Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project Phase 6, which includes the North Avenue to West Avenue Interchange, North Avenue to Mindanao Interchange, C-5, Greenmeadows, Acropolis and Calle Industria Interchange and the Roosevelt to Congressional Avenue Interchange.
Priority projects also include the eight-kilometer four-lane North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) – South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Connector Road and the recently started Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME) Phase 1 connecting Skyway FTI, Parañaque City to Batasan, Quezon City.
