Organization: PUP student tops 11th Estilo De Vida

An Interior Design student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) emerged champion during the 11th Estilo De Vida Awarding Ceremony held at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) last November 7.

19-year old Romel Llona bested his two other competitors, Nelle Sanchez and Aivyl Dela Cruz, both from the University of Santo Tomas, with his chic rendition of a family-owned condominium in the Metro.

Sanchez and Dela Cruz ranked second and third, respectively.

This year’s Estilo De Vida was held under the theme Millennium Living and required the participants to design the interiors of a functional 48 sq. m. space for a family of four living in Metro Manila with a medium-range income.

Llona pulled it off as he incorporated Filipino culture and use of sustainable materials in his design.

Their judges evaluated the plates based on the following criteria: (a) selection of materials; (b) space maximization; (c) feasibility of design construction; (d) low upkeep and maintenance; (e) integration of materials; (f) budget consideration; (g) color scheme; (h) user impact; (i) presentation of drawings and (j) design brief/analysis.

Aside from PUP and UST, other schools that participated in the competition were the University of the East Caloocan-College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design; Raffles Design Institute Manila; University of Saint Louis-Tuguegarao; Philippine Women’s University Manila; Eastern Visayas State University Tacloban; Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute (EARIST); University of San Carlos Cebu; Philippine School of Interior Design; University of the Philippines Diliman; and St. Scholastica’s College.

Out of the over 40 students who submitted their plates, 10 were picked for the semi-final judging. The top three students were then given their own booths at the PTTC, where they made an actual rendition of their designs.

Llona took home P100,000 in cash prize, a trophy and a certificate while Sanchez and Dela Cruz got P40,000 and P30,000, respectively.

Estilo De Vida is an annual inter-school interior design competition and is one of the most anticipated features of Philconstruct, the country’s leading construction trade show.
