Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz will grace the General Membership Meeting (GMM) of the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA) tomorrow, April 24, to talk about “The ASEAN Economic Integration and its Impact on the Construction Industry and the Current Labor Laws.”
The ASEAN Integration will give a boost to businesses as it allows for freer flow of goods, investment, services, capital and skilled labor throughout the ASEAN. As one of the signatories of the AEC Blueprint, the Philippines is expected to benefit from the Integration as it paves the way for good investments and job creation.
As the Integration levels the playing field among industries in the region, contractors should brace for a more intense competition with their counterparts in the ASEAN. This will raise the bar for innovation, quality and productivity, and will allow local businesses to compete head on with foreign players.
In the upcoming GMM, Secretary Baldoz will focus her presentation on the impact of the Integration to the Philippine Construction Industry and how it will affect our existing laws on labor. This will give PCA contractors insights on how they can meet the challenges and make the most of the economic integration, as well as help them cope with the requirements of the cooperation.
Secretary Baldoz was appointed as DOLE chief in 2010 and has been in public service for 40 years.
