Inspired by the Bolivian Subway in the sky, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking forward to constructing three cable cars in the country next year.
Currently seeking assistance from the French government to finance the feasibility study of the proposed project, DOTr echoed the objectives of the project:1) to address the traffic situation in major thoroughfares in the Metro, as well as 2) to effectively connect business districts for a more robust economy.
“Hopefully, I can make this concept [cable car] approved by end of the year and implement it by mid next year,” Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade said.
In an interview last June on ANC's Headstart, Tugade noted that building more roads in the Metro will only aggravate the traffic which is why cable-car system comes as an alternative.
Meanwhile, the department identified Pasig River, Boracay and Baguio as locations for the three initial cable cars.
